Dentistry is 30% materials and 70% craftsmanship, which shows that it is possible to have access to good dental work at affordable prices. Dental work has to be seen as a mix of art and science. In fact, science and technology are required to execute the job properly. Handcraft must be considered too and plays an important part, it is the “art” part of the process. To better understand the pricing gap between Mexico and other countries, here are some explanations:
Cost of living
First, the cost of living. The overall cost of living is lower in Mexico than in developed countries such as the United States or Canada. In fact, labor wages, education, and real estate are cheaper here which gather factors to provide cheaper services. Everything is related, we could compare this as a chain/domino effect.
Tuition
Then, it is important to mention that Mexican dentists have the same tuition as other dentists in developed countries. They are doing a good job in dental work but in the lab as well. They even have an asset compared to students in other countries: here, governments often subsidize dentists’ education. Which means that when they graduate, they don’t have big student loans and don’t need to overcharge for their services.
Mexico doesn’t produce any dental materials signifying that they have the same providers as any other doctor. Most of the time they use the same materials, facilities and protocols as any other dentist. Indeed, some U.S. dentists even send their laboratory work to Mexican labs, which manifest their knowhow.
The way in which the the medical care is provided
Another decisive point is the way medical care is provided in Mexico. The process is faster and easier because you don’t need any specific insurance to get medical treatments. This means you only have to deal with your dental cabinet and avoid adding a third party with its extra procedures. This point (no-insurance) makes sense because it shows that the doctors are sure of their quality services, and you won’t need any refund because the prices are fair.
With those factors, Mexican dentists are allowed to apply a lower range of prices, while providing the same quality of service. The value is preserved, it is a win-win situation between clients and doctors.
Keep in mind that “Price is what you pay, value is what you get”. As said earlier, the materials used, and knowledge are the same. The environment is different.
