NIGHT GUARD
WHAT IS A NIGHT GUARD?
A night guard, also known as a dental guard or occlusal splint, is a dental appliance that is worn while sleeping to protect the teeth and jaws from the harmful effects of teeth grinding and clenching, also known as bruxism. The guard is typically made from a custom-fitted material, such as acrylic or thermoplastic, and is designed to fit over the teeth in a comfortable and secure manner. Night guards can also be used to treat temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, as they can help reduce muscle tension and prevent further damage to the jaw joint. They are usually recommended by a dentist or dental specialist, who will provide instructions on how to wear and care for the guard.
BEnefits
Wearing a night guard can provide a number of benefits for your oral health and overall well-being. By protecting the teeth and jaws from the harmful effects of bruxism, a night guard can prevent tooth wear, fractures, and sensitivity, as well as reduce the risk of developing TMJ disorders. It can also help alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with bruxism, such as headaches, neck and shoulder pain, and earaches. Additionally, wearing a night guard can improve the quality of your sleep, as it can reduce or eliminate the loud grinding and clenching sounds that can disturb your partner or family members. With proper care and maintenance, a night guard can provide a long-lasting and effective solution for managing bruxism and TMJ disorders. If you suspect that you may be grinding or clenching your teeth at night, it’s important to consult with a dental professional to determine if a night guard is the right treatment for you.

EVALUATION AND IMPRESSION TAKING
Schedule an appointment with your dentist for an evaluation. If a night guard is deemed necessary, impressions of your teeth will be taken to create a custom-fit guard.
NIGHT GUARD FABRICATION
The dental laboratory will use the impressions to manufacture a personalized night guard. Typically, acrylic or flexible silicone materials are used for comfort and durability.
FITTING AND FOLLOW-UP
Once the night guard is ready, you will have a fitting appointment with your dentist. They will ensure the guard fits properly and make any necessary adjustments. You will receive instructions on proper usage and care. Additional visits may be required for further adjustments if needed.
TREATMENT PROCESS
Reading the steps of a dental treatment is of utmost importance to ensure a successful outcome. Each step of the treatment is crucial and builds upon the previous one. Understanding the sequence of events allows the patient to be prepared for what is to come and to be aware of any potential risks or complications. By reading the steps, patients can ask questions and clarify any doubts they may have, which in turn allows them to feel more comfortable and confident during the procedure. Additionally, knowing the steps of the treatment helps patients to take an active role in their oral health and to be aware of the long-term maintenance required for a healthy and beautiful smile.
