How to get around Cancun. The best tips from your dentist.

Vacation in Cancun? Have you already thought about how to get around this
unique paradise? Don’t worry! Cancun Dental Care and our dentists share with you
some tips on how to get around the city and its surroundings.

Getting around Cancun is easy because many of the best attractions and places of
interest are in the Hotel Zone. Which transportation you choose, depends on where
you want to go, the Hotel Zone is Cancun’s main tourist area and is very walkable.
Beyond that, there are plenty of cabs, apps like Uber, Cabify, Didi and good public
transportation options like buses. Renting a car is also a good idea in Cancun but
is only useful if you plan to move to an area away from the city center.

You should keep in mind that mobile apps like Uber, Didi, Cabify, etc., do not work
everywhere like at the airport and some parts of the Hotel Zone.

Buses

Most tourists agree that the bus is the best way to get around Cancun. There are routes connecting the Hotel Zone with Kukulcan Boulevard (downtown) and Tulum Avenue, so you can get to almost anywhere you choose on your list of must-see places in Cancun by simply taking a local bus. The most popular routes currently are R1 and R2 and buses run every 5 minutes. Either route connects downtown with the hotel zone. A one-way ticket usually costs about 12 Mexican pesos (about 60 cents). The bus does not accept foreign currency. If you know the stops, ask the driver to let you know when you arrive, and he will be happy to help you. Buses running along the seaside go in a northerly direction towards the center of town. The bus that runs along the lagoon side goes south to the Hotel Zone area.

Walking

Dr. Arturo recommends walking in the most popular areas such as the Hotel Zone or Kukulcan Boulevard, it is very easy to explore the area on foot. Along the way you will find a myriad of attractions, hotels, stores, and malls, where you can do many activities. Hotels are within walking distance of the beach and there is also access to public beaches in different parts of the Hotel Zone.

Cabs

Dr. Bernabe recommends taking a cab, as you can find one anywhere in Cancun. We recommend you check the rates at your hotel and keep in mind that cab drivers do not have meters, you should establish the fare before you leave, depending on where you are going the trip can cost from 200 – 530 pesos, or a trip from the airport can cost from 850 – 1060 pesos.

Cab drivers accept dollars, but they don’t always have change and it is much cheaper if you pay in pesos.

Apps

The apps such as Uber, Didi, Cabify, etc., can be a very safe option, however, they may not work in some parts of Cancun as they are not allowed in some tourist areas and the airport.

Renting a car

A car only makes sense if you plan to move to more remote areas. If you finally decide to rent a car, be sure to thoroughly inspect the vehicle, the rental contract, and the insurance clauses before using it. Also keep in mind that parking in popular tourist areas, such as the Hotel Zone, is limited. It is important to remember that being a tourist will not prevent you from being stopped by the police if you break any traffic rules, so drive carefully and respect the rules!

Ferry

If you plan to visit Isla Mujeres, you’ll want to check out Cancun’s ferry system. Isla
Mujeres is a small, picturesque island located 15 minutes off the coast of Cancun.
There is ferry service to the island all day long from three different docks in
Cancun: Playa Tortugas, El Embarcadero and Playa Caracol. All of them are in the
Hotel Zone.

Schedules are usually from 9:00 to 21:00 and the frequency is 30 minutes. The
round-trip ticket costs around 332 pesos for adults and 293 pesos for children.

Choose the option that best suits your activities and your budget. In any of them
you will have the possibility to visit our Cancun Dental Care, located in Plaza
Kukulcan, Blvd. Kukulcan KM 13, Second floor Suite 102-A, Hotel Zone, 77500
Cancun, Q.R.

Enjoy your trip!
