The materials of a dental crown
Generally a dental crown is gotten after a root canal, because the tooth has broken or lost a lot of structure and it can not keep working properly in the mouth, so it is our work to give back a correct structure to the teeth, getting the functionality and making it last longer in the mouth.
There are different kinds of materials that we can use to build a crown to make it resistant and to make it look as natural as possible between the other teeth.
The cost depends on the material that the patient selects, it could be metal fused to porcelain, full porcelain, zirconia.
All the materials are good and resistant for dental crown, but depending on the case of the patient which kind of material would work better, because sometimes the cheaper can work perfectly and have an excellent prognostic of lasting without spending more money than the patient should.
We can say that the cheaper one is the metal fused porcelain that costs 350 USD, then we have full porcelain ones that costs 450 USD and zirconia ones that costs 500 USD. The cost variant is because of the quality, resistance and esthetic of each material for dental crown. As lower the price these qualities would be lower too respectively, although it will always depend on the case for each patient.
Comparison
Material / Characteristics | Metal fused to porcelain | Full porcelain | Zirconia |
Strength | Has a good resistance. | Does not have too much resistance due to the absence of a metal. | Getting excellent resistance generally works better for frontal teeth. |
Esthetic | Does not get excellent esthetic results. | Gets highly esthetics results | Reaches excellent esthetic characteristics making the crown look as natural toth. |
Cost (USD) | $350 | $450 | $500 |
